Ukraine: Fiona on the Frontline Week 4
Blog by Fiona Sorbala
As I look back on the last week here at Beit Sar Shalom, Berlin; I am astounded at the impact that the teams from Israel have made here in Berlin. Co-ordinating and caring for the teams has been such a privilege. Finding homes for the refugees is such satisfying work for me. To know that I have people on the first step of trying to find their feet in Germany.
Please pray about whether you can host refugees, under the Homes for Ukrainians government scheme. We may well need to be ready for another wave of refugees coming who will need homes.
The first team worked the station like pros preaching the Gospel and praying with people. On my last post I said that they were light in the darkness, and hope in the chaos. Then the next team came, and I stand amazed – they were known in the station by the co-ordinators and station staff. Their prayerfulness and care of the refugees was incredible. They truly were agents of God’s loving touch to the Ukrainians who were transiting the station.
The great news is that both teams led people to the Lord as they prayed, cared, and helped the Refugees and it was also incredible that they had a testimony in the station.
Let me share a lovely story with you. One of the team was greeted every day by a Polish volunteer and on the last day said shalom and the Polish guy nearly fell over – wow and asked; do you speak Hebrew to the Israeli team member. This lovely volunteer had spent a number of years on a kibbutz! Another divine appointment.
This shabbat we are having wedding. It’s the wedding of a couple who should have been getting married in Kyiv, Ukraine; but now in the Messianic Congregation here in Berlin they are getting married today.
