How do you respond when evil knocks on your door? When terror targets the innocent? When hatred tries to extinguish light itself?
The moments from October 7th we have shared on social media this month reveal both humanity’s depths and heights in the span of hours.
EVIL UNLEASHED: COURAGE IN THE DARKNESS
From 7:05 a.m. through 8:15 a.m., darkness was unleashed in brutal ways—terror livestreamed as twisted entertainment, a security coordinator fighting from his bathroom window, Aner Shapira catching seven grenades to save thirty friends, and rockets targeting Jerusalem itself. The scope of evil was indescribable—but so was the light of extraordinary courage shining through it.
THE LIGHT THAT OVERCOMES DARKNESS
Scripture reminds us: “The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it”(John 1:5). On October 7th, ordinary people became unexpected lights in overwhelming darkness. Like biblical heroes who stepped up when called—Moses facing Pharaoh, David confronting Goliath, Esther risking all for her people—these men and women were not fully prepared but found strength beyond themselves. Aner Shapira was not expecting to catch grenades and save lives that day, yet he acted without hesitation to protect others.
Jesus said: “Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). God places heroic capacity in ordinary hearts, lighting the way in moments of terror and calling us to be His hands and feet.
YOUR RESPONSE
When you see evil celebrated or darkness closing in, remember these lights of hope. Ask: What light has God placed within me? Who might be waiting for me to step up and shine courage into their darkest hour?
Watch how love conquered evil in those critical moments:
Who in your life needs to see this?
