Israeli Air Forces Destroy Iranian Nuclear Research Complex
At the end of October, Israel’s Air Force launched a coordinated attack on Iran’s weapons infrastructure. The purpose of that attack is now coming to light. Israeli planes targeted the Parchin military complex because it housed very sensitive equipment for shaping and testing plastic explosives that encase uranium in a nuclear device. This product is essential for initiating a chain reaction in a nuclear weapon.
Officially, Iran paused its nuclear program in 2003. The equipment was being stored at the complex. Both American and Israeli intelligence reported that in the last year, Iran had resumed scientific activities that could be an attempt to develop nuclear weapons. If Iran decides to move forward with developing nuclear weapons, it would need to replace the special equipment destroyed in the Israeli strike. A senior Israeli official explained, “This is equipment the Iranians would need if they wanted to move towards a nuclear bomb. Now, they don’t have it, and finding any alternative won’t be easy. We would see any such efforts.” Another Israeli official noted, “This equipment is a bottleneck. The Iranians are stuck without it.” Israeli and American intelligence would likely detect any attempt by Iran to build or acquire such machinery.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had promised President Biden not to target Iranian nuclear sites, for fear of sparking a massive regional war. Since this military complex is not officially part of the nuclear program of Iran, no part of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty was violated.
Please pray for more intelligence and diplomacy to bring solutions and safety to the Middle East.
Israel Updates Travel Warnings for Israelis and Jewish People Worldwide.
Israel has many frontlines as it is fighting in the south against Hamas, in the north against Hezbollah, in the east against Iran and her proxies in Yemen. In addition, many tourist destinations abroad are now considered unsafe. Two weeks ago in Amsterdam, the world saw a pogrom against Israeli soccer fans as they attended a match between a local Dutch soccer club against Israel’s Maccabi team. Anti-Israel thugs chased down, beat, and terrorized Israelis travelers so that El Al, Israel’s national carrier, sent planes to evacuate them.
Israel’s National Security Council has rated different countries by threat level. Level one suggests an occasional threat whereas level four is a serious threat, urging Israelis to leave immediately. Following anti-Israel protests, threats, and violence, many Israelis are cautious about travel to western Europe. The safest places for Israelis to travel are in Eastern Europe like Warsaw, Budapest, and Belgrade as well as the Fast East like Japan and Cambodia, and Latin America like Panama and Costa Rica. Many Israelis like to travel and feel a relief of stress from the year’s war by being away from the battles and news. But the recent threats against Israelis abroad have really shaken many who now feel isolated and fearful.
Please pray for the peace and safety of Israelis and Jewish people as they travel.
Young Ultra-Orthodox Israelis Protest Draft Orders
Israel’s standing army is in need of more soldiers. In the past, the ultra-Orthodox (also known as Haredi) young adults have not had to serve. In June, the High Court ruled that they too will eligible for the draft. Studying in a yeshiva (religious school to study the Torah) is no longer enough to keep them out of military service. This past week, one thousand of the seven thousand draft notices were sent out. On Sunday night, Haredi demonstrators blocked a major highway to protest the draft. Many ultra-Orthodox leaders resist having their young men serve in Israel’s army because they claim the army is incompatible with their way of life and fear the youth will become secular. Rabbi Zvi Friedman said that the draft “destroys the Torah, destroys Judaism and destroys everything.”
For decades, the ultra-Orthodox have not had to serve, placing all of Israel’s protection and security needs on less observant Israelis. This burdens them, their work, their families, and their routines. The strain has been especially hard this past year as more than 300,000 reserve soldiers have been called up to serve, often for lengthy times. These differences in military service requirements on the population have created a massive rift between secular Israelis and the religious.
Please pray for the protection of Israel’s soldiers and for agreement and peace in this ongoing conflict.
Serving the Soldiers along the Northern Border
As the ground incursion in Lebanon continues, we are thankful for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) who are fighting for Israel’s safety and destroying Hezbollah terrorist infrastructure. Still, this last weekend, Hezbollah fired over 100 deadly rockets at Israel’s north. Many places of worship had to meet in their bomb shelter rooms or on Zoom. A few of our workers had to run for shelter numerous times on Saturday and Sunday. Please pray for their peace.
This is why the IDF active and reserve units are continually fighting and being called up to serve along the northern border. Sometimes, a unit may not be fully equipped for their needs. In addition, when a reserve soldier is suddenly called up, he may not have enough time to shop and prepare for his time in the north. Recently, we learned from believing soldiers serving in the north that their unit lacked quality thermal undergarments. The temperatures are dropping now, especially in higher elevation. Chosen People Ministries—Israel purchased 120 sets of thermal underwear, shirts, and socks for men and women. We put this in the hands of the believing soldiers who can give them out, making it known they were believers and the supplies were from believers. This deepens opportunity for conversations about Jesus, prayer, and questions about the Lord! What a testimony. We praise God we could, through the soldiers, shine the light and love of Jesus, the Messiah!
Please pray for these incredible conversations the soldiers can have with their units!
