Israel Acts to Halt Syrian Massacre of Druze
Last week, beginning on July 13, hundreds of Druze in southern Syria were brutally massacred by Syrian military and Bedouin Islamists.
“I was just sitting there watching the horror videos, one by one. Just like we all did on Oct. 7,” said Sari Halabi, a thirty-eight-year-old father of three who lives in the Druze town of Majdal Shams just about a mile from Syria.
Syria’s new president, former al-Qaeda jihadist terrorist Ahmed al-Sharaa, “sent an army south of Damascus, into the area that should be demilitarized, and it began to massacre the Druze,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “We could not accept this in any way.”
“The past few terrible days followed a very difficult year,” said Abdullah Rabah, another Druze from Majdal Shams, referring to the twelve Druze children killed last year when Hezbollah launched a rocket which exploded in their town’s soccer field last year. “But [this slaughter of our Druze brothers in Syria] led to an act of brotherly courage [Israel’s strikes on Syria] that, even though it came too late, will be remembered for generations and saved many lives.” He says the Israeli precision airstrikes in Damascus were intended to protect the Druze from Syria’s Islamic jihad and calls them “an unprecedented act of solidarity that will usher in a new level of integration and fraternity between Jews and Druze.”
Pray for physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual healing for the remaining Druze in southern Syria who have seen horrific torture, lost so many family members and friends, and been forced from their homes this past week. Please pray for salvation in Jesus for the Druze. Pray for the few believers in the Druze communities not to be afraid to witness. Please pray for transformations of Muslim militants who are bent on persecuting people, that they might be changed wholeheartedly and become courageous and loving disciples of Jesus instead.
Hadassah Medical Team Brings Hope and Artificial Intelligence to the Fight against Cancer
The Jerusalem-based Hadassah Medical Organization discussed two major breakthroughs in cancer detection and treatment.
First, Dr. Shreberk-Hassidim introduced a cutting-edge, AI-enhanced machine—the Vectra WB360—which utilizes ninety-two synchronized cameras to photograph the entire body in less than one minute and track any changes in moles over time. Its usefulness for skin cancer detection is enormous.
“Early detection saves lives,” noted Hassidim. “The software creates a full body map, flags suspicious lesions and helps us predict which moles could become cancerous.”
Next, Professor Aron Popovtzer, the oncology director at Hadassah, introduced their pioneer vertical proton therapy system using the Bragg peak effect, which they developed in partnership with Israeli startup P-Cure. The biggest difference between this pioneer therapy and traditional radiation is this proton approach minimizes toxicity by targeting tumors precisely, while radiation damages surrounding tissue. Another notable difference is the patient remains seated during treatment.
“It’s such a simple idea,” Popovtzer observed. “Instead of rotating a giant radiation beam around the patient, we rotate the patient around the beam.”
Both breakthroughs offer great promise, bright hope, and vast implications worldwide in the fight against cancer. Hadassah medical researchers maintain that although these innovations will change detection and treatment of cancer, providers and patients must remember ethical and clinical oversight from humans must accompany any AI technology.
“AI will never replace the physician,” Hassidim said. “It assists, but the human context is still essential.”
Praise God for these two incredible medical breakthroughs, and ask Him for continued wisdom upon Hadassah researchers and other Israeli innovators. Pray for new AI technology to save many lives in Israel and around the world. Please pray for cancer patients who know the Lord to rest and take joy in Him, and for those who do not yet know the Lord to meet Him and acknowledge their need for His strength and salvation.
Israel Defense Forces Dismantle Newly Discovered Hamas Tunnels under Jabalya
The Israel Defense Force’s (IDF) Armored Corps 401st Brigade combat engineers located and dismantled a network of Hamas terror tunnels located under Jabalya last week, the IDF spokesperson stated on Sunday. The new tunnels were a total of 2.7 kilometers long, or 1.68 miles.
Israeli forces restarted operating in Jabalya in June, the third time during the Israel-Hamas War. The IDF’s expanded ground activities in the area have resulted in the dismantling of hundreds of terrorist infrastructure sites, confiscation of countless weapons, destruction of numerous rocket launchers, and careful elimination of dozens of terrorists.
Three tank soldiers from the 401st Brigade lost their lives last week during the operations.
Pray for the IDF as they go deeper into terrorist territory to weaken the grip of Hamas over Gazans. Please pray for the Israeli hostages who are still alive and in the hands of Hamas to be divinely protected during the military incursions, and for Hamas operatives to be removed. Pray for comfort for the families of those who have lost loved ones, and for supernatural wisdom, strength, peace, and protection as they fight evil.
Fruit from the Frontlines: Hope and Healing for Traumatized Soldiers
Our ministry report this week focuses on soldiers; many are battle-weary and trying to stay encouraged, even when terrorists so often turn out to be not just the people wearing uniforms. As of this writing, 893 IDF soldiers have lost their lives so far in the Israel-Hamas War.
To put the numbers into context, Israel’s population is currently about 9.6 million, so with 893 soldiers dying, this equals one in every 10,697 Israelis killed in this war. The population of the United States is currently about 342 million[1] so if one in every 10,697 citizens died, it would equal 31,985 Americans killed in war.
Not long ago, we hosted a reunion with participants of our Nera program—our spiritual trauma healing initiative for female soldiers and veterans. We met in northern Israel and had a beautiful, intimate evening. What made it even more special was that some of the married women brought their husbands. It was powerful to witness moments of reconciliation—several women were able to rebuild and strengthen their marriages. One of the husbands said, “Thank you so much for taking her to that program—it made our marriage so much better.” It was deeply encouraging.
Many of the women expressed a deep desire for continued relationship and discipleship. It is incredible to see how this program continues to bear fruit in their lives.
One soldier told us, “That’s the only place where I can be myself and breathe.” Another said, “Nera gave me space to forgive God, myself, and find hope—a new beginning. Though the world hasn’t changed, I now see Him in every situation.”
Please pray for the IDF who are serving to protect their country—and to protect the citizens of places like Gaza, Syria, and the West Bank—from terrorists and Islamist jihad. Pray against the demonic forces at work behind terrorism and its propaganda. Please pray for soldiers to see evidence of God’s presence and protection with them, for them to be hungry for and encouraged by the Scriptures, and for the Holy Spirit to lead them to divine encounters with believers both in the military and civilian life. Pray for their salvation both physically and spiritually.
